The History of the Town of Morgan

The Morgan Historical Society

In 1609 Champlain claimed Verde Mont for France which traded Vermont to the English in 1763 in the Treaty of Paris which ended the French and Indian War. From 1763 to 1777 Vermont was claimed by both New York and New Hampshire; Ethan Allen was instrumental in establishing Vermont as an independent republic until it joined the Union on March 4, 1791 as the 14th state.

The Town was actually first chartered after the Revolutionary War in 1780 by the Republic of Vermont.
